May 21, 2001 In a bid to promote cooperation, rather than competition, between stationery producers from Taiwan and mainland China, the Taiwan Regional Association of Educational Materials Industries (also known as TASI, the Taiwan Association of Stationery Industries), will lead a group of approximately 25 Taiwan stationery producers to participate in the 2001 International Exhibition of Stationery and Gifts in Shanghai, China, June 30 to July 2. The China Writing Instrument Association (CWI), TASI and the New Technology Developing Center of the China Science and Technology Association are the joint organizers of the show. Additional supporters of the event are the State Administration of Light Industry and co-organizer the China General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC). The tradeshow host is the Beijing Zhongmaolian Exhibition and Show Co., Ltd. "It's well-known within the industry that mainland China stationery producers basically compete on the basis of lower prices, while Taiwan companies leverage quality and innovation to promote sales," said Donald Mai, executive secretary of TASI. "However, one of the main purposes of this event is to create more business opportunities together in both the local and international markets," said Mai. TASI has been mulling over such a venture since 1997, according to Mai, and this year finally decided to put it all together. "There have already been email inquiries from interested buyers in Japan and the U.S.," said Mai. The 25-plus Taiwan exhibitors that have registered to take part so far will occupy 60 booths at the show. It is likely that more Taiwan firms will sign up before the event opens, according to Mai. Additionally, as a service to the Taiwan exhibitors, TASI will help provide seminars geared to topics such as investment regulations in mainland China. |
